We continued to add software to our database that we came across. However, the time available to us was always rather short, so that we did not look at the software more intensively and therefore also held back with writing articles. However, since two months we have become more active again. We are working on a new website design and we want to change our data management. So far we are working with a database plugin for WordPress for collecting and presenting data (see here ). In the past, with the plugin we had again and again smaller problems. However, a changeover was not an issue for us until now, because the plugin worked fundamentally and a changeover is always associated with a lot of work, which we were able to successfully avoid. In the meantime, however, the plugin has become very outdated and is no longer maintained, which is why we had to decide to finally tackle the issue of migration. It was clear to us from the beginning that we would like to move the data to Wikidata to make it available to the public. This means that in the future suggestions can be implemented directly without contacting us. Further, it will be directly available in the software overview. How the integration of Wikidata data will look like, you can see here for the example ‘transcription’. You can also have a look at the new design at the same time. The new page is currently under construction and is still full of bugs. The data will be retrieved live from Wikidata each time via a SPAQRQL query. SPARQL stands for S PARQL P rotocol A nd R DF Query L anguage. Wikidata also provides a frontend for this, where you can generate your own queries. The SPARQL query for transcription software looks e.g. so We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the developers for the many software tools and services we are currently using for the transition. OpenRefine we use to prepare the data we have pulled from our database. Once consolidated, we can upload the data directly from OpenRefine to Wikidata via a Wikidata interface. The Wayback Machine of the Internet Archives helps us to search for software that is no longer developed and whose website has disappeared in the meantime. Furthermore, we work a lot with the services of Wikidata, e.g. to create new items . In a few weeks we will go online with the new page and let you know. share share share share RSS feed Tags OpenRefine , SPARQL , Wikidata Categories SoSciSo Info Open Access made easy Post author By sosciso Post date 2019/06/17 No Comments on Open Access made easy Do you want to provide readers of your research with an Open Access option to your research publications and always hesitated to do so since each journal has different restrictions? There is an easy solution for you: dissem.in . Just look up your publications, authenticate with your ORCID and let dissem.in do the rest for you while considering all the legal considerations of each journal/publisher. Open Science can be damn easy… share share share share RSS feed Tags Open Access Categories SoSciSo Info Research software at openresearchcentral.org Post author By sosciso Post date 2018/10/25 No Comments on Research software at openresearchcentral.org Openresearchcentral.org is a portal for publishing open access research online. When it comes to software in the (social science) research process, they offer a great option for those who are interested in which software is used for which type of research endeavour. The article type Software Tool Article offers an hopefully increasing amount of articles where authors described explicitely the use of their software for a certain research question. However, in the moment it is rather limited to articles stemming from the natural and computer sciences. share share share share RSS feed Tags Open Access , Openresearchcentral Categories SoSciSo Info Laurence Anthony’s AntConc and other tools Post author By sosciso Post date 2018/07/30 No Comments on Laurence Anthony’s AntConc and other tools We recently stumbled upon Laurence Anthony’s AntConc , a corpus tool for concordance and text analysis (for a comprehensive introduction to corpus analysis see: http://pitt.edu/~belk/courses/2016/human/0500/assets/_doc/basic_analysis_routledge_hb_corp_2010.pdf ). On his website , Laurence gathers several little tools that facilitate the analysis of corpuses in general. We are not very much familiar with corpus analysis and, thus, rather avoid testing and evaluating the specific use of the software. If someone did, feel free to comment here :) AntConc share share share share RSS feed Tags AntConc , Content Analysis Categories SoSciSo Info Fehlende Literaturdatenbanken ergänzt Post author By sosciso Post date 2018/06/05 No Comments on Fehlende Literaturdatenbanken ergänzt Sorry, this entry is only available in German .
